The best hikes in Zion National Park

Anyone who is planning on going to the western part of the United States, should consider visiting Zion National Park. This spectacular spot is only a short drive away from Las Vegas and with its red rocks and canyons, it’s one of the most popular national parks in the US. Today we’re sharing our five favorite (day) hikes in the park with you. Angel’s Landing Together with The Narrows, this is definitely the most popular trail in the park. Walking Wednesday: just hanging out!

Last Saturday the weather was just plain crap (rain, rain and uhm, more rain!) so when the sky cleared on Sunday, it was obvious that everyone was ready to get out. And I mean EVERYONE! People in Holland are tired of winter by now. Not that we have anything to be tired about because with just about 10 days of snow and temperatures mostly above zero, we can’t say it’s been a hard winter. Mountainous Monday: Saana

This week we’ll tell you about Saana, a 1.029 meter high mountain in Northern Finland. Sanaa is located in Finnish Lapland in the Enontekiö region, close to the border of Norway. It is the most famous mountain in Finland. The reason for this is that it has a remarkable shape, which stands out like a giant rock, near the village of Kilpisjärvi. It gives great views over the neighbouring countries Sweden and Norway. Not far from Saana is Halti (1.324 metres) which is Finland’s highest fell or mountain. This mountain is a bit further away into the wilderness, so that’s why Saana is a much more popular stop for a nice climb…

Hiking to Cochamó, aka Chile’s Yosemite

There are places you exactly remember how you got around to going there. Cochamó in Chile is one of those places. Martijn showed me something he had found on the American Alpine Club’s website. We stayed at one of their ranches earlier that summer (Grand Teton Climber’s Ranch) and we were looking for ideas for our next trip. So he came up with Cochamó. It’s also described as the Yosemite of Chile and a hiker’s and climber’s paradise. Since we already had planetickets to South America, it was an easy decision to head out over there. After staying in Petrohue for the night, it was time to gather our stuff for a…
