Everest Base Camp trek day 3: Namche Bazaar to Everest View Hotel

In the previous edition of The Trail to Everest Base Camp, I told you how I struggled to get to Namche Bazaar and how the headache kicked in the night of our arrival at 3.440 meters. On day 3, the plan is to take it easy and do an acclimatization hike up to the Everest View Hotel. This is an exclusive hotel, built on a ridge above town, where you can get a great view on Mount Everest, better than the short peek we had yesterday.   Since we won’t have to hike too far today, we decide we’re just going to take one backpack, which my hiking partner will…

The trail to Everest Base Camp – Phakding to Namche Bazaar

It’s 06.00 am when the alarm of my phone goes off. Time to get up and hike! Today is a big day on Everest Base Camp Trek as we’re going to climb more than 800 meters to an altitude of 3.440 meters. Our final destination for the day will be Namche Bazaar, the biggest town in the Kumbu Valley. Here, we will settle down for two days in order to familiarize our bodies with the altitude. We leave straight after breakfast and the three of us are among the first ones on the track. We cross the Khumbu River various times across swing bridges and Jangbu promises us that before…

I live to share my stories and to create enthusiasm for the beautiful places I am seeing each time while exploring the world. Although I’ve written numerous posts about Nepal already, I feel like there’s so many stories left to be told. What it was really like to hike up to 5.364 meters above sea level and what it was like to spend 15 days hiking through some of the most amazing landscapes you will ever encounter on this planet.   I’m going…

Wifi on Everest Base Camp trek: where to find it and the costs

“Is there wifi on Everest Base Camp trek?” was the question I asked myself before heading over to Nepal. When googling this, the most recent post I found, was a blog from The Planet D that was published more than five years ago. As I imagine a lot would have changed over the past years, I contacted the agency we booked with, Rural Heritage, part of the bigger company called Himalayan Encounters. They told me there would be wifi in four places on the track which made me happy. I decided to go without internet as often as I could but I was happy I would still be able to…
