Hikes in Höör in Skåne – the best tips and trails
In the middle of the Swedish region Skåne lies the town of Höör. Every time I saw the name “Höör” on a road sign, I wondered how to pronounce it and what there is to see. The answer to my first question is simple, you just say “hurr”. The answer to my second question requires more explanation. I discovered that Höör is one of the most beautifully situated villages in Skåne and that you can go for wonderful hikes there. In this article I share three beautiful hiking trails in and around Höör in Skåne and I tell you about other sights and where to stay.

About Höör in Skåne
I will start this blog with some more information about Höör. As mentioned, Höör is located in the central part of Skåne and is surrounded by nature reserves. This makes it perhaps one of the most beautifully situated towns in Skåne. You can easily reach Höör by train from Malmö or by car. The journey by train will take you about 35-40 minutes, the journey by car about 45 minutes from Malmö. As soon as you enter Sweden via the bridges from Denmark, Höör is a great first stop after your long journey, to stretch your legs and/or for a first overnight stay.
Hikes in Höör
Höör is surrounded by hiking trails and nature reserves. From the town center you can walk straight into the beautiful and especially quiet nature. Since the hiking trails in and around Höör are still relatively undiscovered, you will hardly encounter other tourists but mostly just locals, which I thought was very nice! Below I will describe three beautiful hiking trails that you can make around Höör.

Frostavallen Recreational Area
The Frostavallen Recreation Area is a fifteen-minute drive northwest of Höör and consists of several nature reserves: Bjäret, Ullstorp and Dagstorp. Within the recreation area there are two large lakes: Vaxsjön and Dagstorpssjön. You can swim in both lakes and there are sandy beaches and fire pits in various places. A very special feature is that you are allowed to freedom came, which is no longer allowed in many nature reserves in southern Sweden.
In total there are five marked hiking trails in Frostavallen:
- Vaxsjöslingan (2,9 km)
- Långtorpsslingan (9,9 km)
- Ulltorpsslingan (4,3 km)
- Dagtorpsslingan (9,3 km)
- Bjäretslingan (3,9 km)
The famous Skåneleden also crosses the Frostavallen recreation area, as does the 16 kilometre long Pilgrimsleden. A hiking map of the Frostavallen area can be found here.

Bjäretslingan hiking trail: in search of an ancient volcano
After consultation with nature guide Lotta, who we meet at the Frostavallen Parking, we decide to do the Bjäretslingan hiking trail. This trail takes us over the flanks of an ancient volcano, which dates back to the period when dinosaurs still lived here. This area is particularly hilly for Skåne, and on the steep slopes you can go sledding when it has snowed.
The Bjäretslingan is marked in white and takes you mainly through old beech forests. Autumn does not seem to have really started here yet, but the first mushrooms are already starting to appear out of the ground. You pass a huge wall of basalt, the remains of the volcano. From here we climb steadily and soon we are at the top of the volcano. Surrounded by forest, so there is no view, but our legs have had a good workout.
The trail is mixed, sometimes on planks, sometimes a wide forest trail. On the way we cross the Skåneleden, which we will encounter and discover more often in the coming days.
After a good hour we return to the car and drive to our overnight address, the Ullstorps Stugor.

The Rövarekulan nature reserve
Rövarekulan Nature Reserve is located about twenty minutes driving towards the south of Höör and is known as “Robbers’ Ball”. The nature reserve is named after the robbers who are said to have ravaged the valley. They are said to have been ambushing travellers who rushed along the country road and crossed the Bråån River in the valley. According to legend, there was a robbers’ ball with an iron door deep in the ravine.
The stone bridge over the river was built by Otto Ramel at Löberöd Castle in 1870. Along the banks of the Bråån River, which crosses the nature reserve, musicians played music and danced to it. The dance floor remained until 1975. The runestone by the car park was found when the dance floor was demolished.

A walk through Rövarekulan nature reserve
The Rövarekulan nature reserve is not large, there is one marked walking route of about six kilometers. The reserve is divided in two parts by the Bråån river and when we arrive at the parking lot it turns out that the bridge in the north of the reserve is closed. This means that we can only do the southern round. And that is actually fine because it is raining very hard. That is also Sweden.
We cross the Bråån (ån is Swedish for river) via the old stone bridge from 1870 and climb a lot. Here too there are steep slopes and the legs have to work quite hard. From a great height we look down on the river, while the drops tap on my hood. After we have descended and crossed the Bråån again, a mud path with planks follows. Here it is slippery and sliding due to the rainfall of the past few days, which makes it a nice adventure.
An hour later we are back at the car and it is unfortunately time to leave Höör and continue our journey to our next destination: Landskrona.
A hiking map of the Rövarekulan nature reserve can be found here.

Skåneleden Höör – Bjeveröd
If you would like to do part of the Skåneleden at Höör, I can recommend the section from Höör to Bjeveröd. This section is 11 kilometers long and relatively easy. You start your hike in the center of Höör and end in Bjeveröd, where there is a camping site and from where you walk in about 4 kilometers to Ludvigsborg where the bus goes back to Höör.
More information about this section of Skåneleden can be found here.
The Skåneleden is a hiking trail of over 1,300 kilometres that crosses large parts of Skåne.

Overnight in Ullstorps Stugor
The nice thing about Höör is that it is not a huge tourist destination. You will not find large-scale hotels or huge campsites, but mostly small-scale accommodations that are run with passion.
We spend the night just outside Höör at the Ullstorp Stugor, run by Anna and Daniel. They bought part of the estate in 2016 and converted it into what is now a beautiful setting for a holiday in the middle of nature. During the summer holidays, Ullstorp Stugor is especially popular with families, outside the high season it is a great place to go if you are looking for peace and quiet. It is useful to know that there are no facilities nearby and that you must bring all your own food and drinks.
The cottages (“stugor”) all have their own authentic atmosphere and location. We go out with Daniel to feed the animals on the farm and you are welcome as a guest to cuddle the goats, sheep and other animals all day long. There are several hiking trails in the area and above all it is wonderfully quiet!
Check availability and prices here for Ullstorp Stugor.

A fika in Höör
As mentioned, Höör is not very big. For lunch or fika, you can go to Café Old Fashion in the center of Höör. They have delicious dishes, all freshly prepared, as well as good coffee and cakes that will make your mouth water. The atmosphere is nice and informal: an absolute must for after your walk.

Overnights in Skåne
- In high season (end of June to August) it is necessary to book your accommodations in advance. The Swedes themselves are on holiday then and many accommodations are fully booked. Outside of high season it is usually possible to travel on spec. I prefer to make reservations myself at Booking.com.
Conclusion en disclaimer
