Highlights of the Soča Valley in Slovenia
Soon it will already be a year since I was in Slovenia. Earlier I wrote about my hiking adventures in Radovljica and about my visit to Bohinj and its lake of the same name, today I tell you more about the highlights of the Soča Valley in Slovenia. This valley is one of the most beautiful in the country and has, besides the bright blue Soča River, several other highlights that you shouldn’t miss as a nature lover. Here goes!
1. The lake at Most na Soči
Blue water is what the Soča Valley is best known for and the lake of Most na Soči is also part of it. I arrived in Most na Soči by train and took a short walk along the banks of the lake. The coloring leaves contrasted beautifully with the bright blue lake, despite the fact that it was a dark start of the day.
2. The Kolovrat outdoor museum
It is a bit of a drive into the mountains, but once up at the open-air museum of Kolovrat, on the border of Italy and Slovenia, you have a beautiful view over the surrounding area. This museum is dedicated to the First World War and you can still walk through the old trenches, from where you can see Italy below and far away in the distance.
3. The Kozjak waterfall
One of the most famous waterfalls in the Soča Valley in Slovenia is the Kozjak waterfall. This beautiful waterfall is about a ten minute walk from the parking lot outside the town of Kobarid and can be reached via a simple walkway along the water. The Kozjak waterfall is located in a cave, which makes it an extra special sight.
4. The Boka waterfall
Another waterfall, this time the Boka waterfall. This is the highest waterfall in Slovenia: 144 meters high and 18 meters wide. You can see it from the road, but you can also take a 15-minute walk to the viewpoint.
5. The Great Soča Gorge
The Great Soča gorge can be found between the towns of Bovec and Trenta and is one of the most beautiful places where you can admire the Soča River and take pictures. Especially when it has rained the water is high and the color is extra bright. Turns out that I had bad weather with good reason, looking back at it!
6. Hiking on Alpe Adria Trail
The plan for this day was actually that I would walk a stage of the Alpe Adria Trail, but as it was pouring like crazy most of the day, I was taken for a tour along to the highlights of the Soča Valley by Maja from the local tourist agency. We walked a very small part of the Alpe Adria Trail at the Kozjak waterfall, but unfortunately it turned out to be too bad to really take beautiful pictures. The tour was also a good alternative!
Camping in the Soča Valley
Looking for a camping in the Soča Valley? I stayed in a glamping house at Camp Liza in Bovec this night . Simple but neat! By the way, I was there in the late season (October) and then most facilities were closed. It is nevertheless a great place and base for your visit to the Soča Valley in Slovenia.

Conclusion and disclaimer
Despite the rain and the plans that fell apart, I still enjoyed this special valley immensely. I certainly hope to come back again to do part of the Alpe Adria Trail so that I can enjoy the footpaths along the bright blue water with dry feet.
