Hiking the Gaisalmsteig at the Achensee

Hiking the Gaisalmsteig at the Achensee in Austria Just before I’d leave Tirol behind and travel onwards to Vorarlberg, I decide that I have a few more hours left for a short hike. And so instead of sleeping in, I’m the first person in Hotel St. Georg Zum See who arrives at breakfast on Sunday morning 08.00 am. At 08.30 I leave the hotel and by 09.00 I’ve arrived in Pertisau in order to catch the first boat to Gaisalm for hiking the Gaisalmsteig.   The full Gaisalmsteig stretches from Pertisau to Achenkirch along the shores of the Achensee and it measures almost 10 kilometers. Unfortunately I don’t have enough…

Adventure on the Via Ferrata in Achensee

Adventure on the Via Ferrata in Achensee While checking out my program of the blogtrip I made to Achensee at the beginning of this summer, my heart skipped a beat. Of anxiety. I was scheduled to do a Via Ferrata! My previous experience on a Ferrata was not the best ever as I thought it was pretty scary and even though I had been practising a bit on the Calmont Klettersteig in Germany in the meanwhile, I wasn’t sure it was going to be a whole lot of fun. But as I think you should give certain things in life a second try, I decided to search for the inner…

Hiking in the Kaisertal in Austria

Hiking in the Kaisertal – a beautiful two-day trek in Austria It’s a misty Friday morning when I open up the curtains of our hotel in Kufstein. Today we’ll start a short hut-tour in Austria, which means that sunny weather is always better than mist. We get dressed, pack our last gear and head over downstairs for breakfast. At 09.00 we are being picked up at reception by our guide Harold, also known as Hiking Harry, who will take us on a two day trek in Austria’s Kaisertal, a great hiking tour for hikers new to this sort of trekkings and those who have minimal mountain hiking experience.   The…

    Pretty Kaisertal in pictures

As I’m writing this (Sunday evening 22.08 hrs) it’s exactly one week ago since I got home from Austria. From the Kaisertal to be more precise. I’m sure you may not have heard of that before, yet you may have heard of Kufstein or the Wilder Kaiser?   I needed a few days to recover from the trip. From the forever taking drive back home which took nearly 11 hours because of an insane number of Baustellen on the German Autobahn. From the beautiful yet pretty exhausting hikes I did while it was about thirty degrees. From the mosquito bites I got and kept me awake at night. From the…
